GEEK-talk!

Film-
I've seen the billboard advertisements and am extremely curious about:
Inside Man.
A heist film starring my man Denzel Washington, my other man- Clive Owen and Jodie Foster. Directed by Spike Lee.

Basic Instinct 2- Really curious to see if this is any good. You'd imagine (hope)that it was a pretty good premise to attract Sharon Stone back after what- 15 years?? The first was a great sexy-thriller (well that was my impression when I last saw it..... but I WAS 18 yrs old).

Comics-
Due to budget considerations and being constantly disappointed, I've pretty much stopped buying comics. BUT I am a bit interested in seeing what Scott Pilgrim is like. It looks kinda cool, but on further examination I was turned off by the use of "video game violence" as a tool to resolve conflicts.
Is it any good?
I also saw a collection of Alan Moore DC supers stories. Would be good for a read.
The last Y-The Last Man trade bored me, so I think I'll stop paying for it and wait till I'm back in Melbourne where I can just read Dougs'.

Speaking of Doug, I'll be sticking with the (also recently disappointing) The Amazing Joy Buzzards, as Holgie will be illustrating v.2 #5. Check the cover out HERE!

TV-
Just finished watching the first series of FIRE-FLY, and........ I'm not convinced.
With the exception of one brilliant episode ("Our Mrs Reynolds") there was far too many simply woeful episodes where it appeared they let the work experience kid write the script and the sandwich man direct... plus I just think it doesn't work.
Too many genres squashed in that maaaaaay have worked if they didn't also throw in soo many cliche's.
Watch-able- YES.
Showed promise- .. yeah.
Was I blown away and addicted enough to wish to all the gods that they didn't can it- nope.
Want to go back and re-watch SERENITY though.

But to make up for it... Season 2 of Deadwood is available. Next paycheck, cocksuckers!

And British tv is absolutely terrible. Australia gets the best of the best, but it is only a tiny portion of what gets aired.

Internet-
In the last few weeks I've been using my previously dormant Live Journal. I've been posting different things from there to here, so you'll have to keep on your toes and check both. I'm making use of the "Friends Only" function of lj and posting lots of work that I shouldn't be showing yet. So go over, have a look and sign up if you want. You don't want to miss out on any Frase-ness!!

Music-
Some songs I'm specifically digging at the moment:
Big River- Johnny Cash
Whats My Scene- Hoodoo Gurus
Stand Together- Beastie Boys
The Projects- Handsome Boy Modeling School
Rubber Biscuit- The Chips
Holy Smokes- Aesop (??)

NEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, Scott Pilgrim is very good; especially the 2nd book. It made me excitable.

Doug will disagree, but Marvel Zombies is a lot of fun.

I hope Inside man will be Spike's breakout movie so he can get some acceptance in the mainstream. I really don't want him to have to do a remake or fast and furious 4 (like singleton) to have a movie break $50 million. I think he's an incredibly good director.

The first two discs of Deadwood was gold and now i have to rush to the video store and hire the next two. (is there a 3rd season?)

Maybe I will pick up Scott Pilgrim- from what I've seen I quite like the artwork.

Whats Marvel Zombie?

You know what the script of Fire Fly sounds like? Like a fanboy wrote it. 100% b-grade. Which isn't really a bad thing. If it works.
And there were some real stinker episodes! Lke "The Shind-dig" ep. My god that was cringe worthy!

Douglas- you've ALREADY watched the whole season of Deadwood vol 2??
Don't know about season 3. I assume it's in production.

Agree with you on Spike Lee, Mark. He is a seriously underrated film maker who's got a back catalouge of important films as long as Dougs beard! But most of his films don't even get released in Australia!!

I've been a bit bored with my jazz lately. in particular- my swing. I've been thinking I should delve into more be-bop.
But now that you mention it- what little blues and blue grass I have - I've been enjoying. Perhaps I should dig into that line of thought some more.

Please do post some recomendations!!

And there is always hippity-hop!! I really want to get the new Blackiliscous album.

Scott Pilgrim Book 2 is much better than book 1.

as Doug, states, Marvel Zombies is a 5 part miniseries where various marvel heroes are zombies. It features bruce banner's stomach bursting when he reverts from a just fed zombie hulk, a legless spiderman and a half eaten black panter. but Doug is wrong - its fun and good.

in terms of hiphopity music; i'm digging a group called Little Brother, they remind me of de la soul or maybe Tribe called quest; probably not as musically interesting but still pretty solid rap. Other wise Fatlip (from pharcyde) has a new album which i'm still digesting but its not bad - a bit whimisical but there's noting wrong with that.

and mos def's last album just gets better and better

I found some Marvel Zombie sample pages on the net and while it does look kinda fun- I think I'll wait to read Dougs copies when I'm back in Melbourne.
Oh yes. Thats right. He'll be buying them!
Kid Koala is good. I don't have an album, but I've listened to it. PLUS- it comes with a comic!

I need to update my hippity-hop- I feel bad that I'm still listening to old Ice-T!!
